An award-winning Scottish filmmaker and videographer with experience bringing stories to life through narrative, promotional, educational, documentary, and music videos.
Max is an award-winning filmmaker and videographer whose work spans narrative, documentary, educational and promotional projects. He has been passionate about filmmaking since first picking up a camera, and at the age of eight was already creating films and telling stories through the medium.
With a particular interest in narrative storytelling, Max has directed over 13 original short films and worked across several more. He was the Creative Award winner during Scotland’s Year of Young People in 2018, and since then many of his short films have received nominations and wins from different film festivals. In 2023, he worked as director of photography and editor on Daniel Kerr’s short film 'Your Move', which won Best Short Drama at the Swedish International Film Festival.
In 2023, Max co-founded the youth-led filmmaking organisation 'Next Take' alongside filmmakers Daniel Kerr and Archie Nelson. Based in Scotland, Next Take delivers educational filmmaking projects for young people, combining professional production with hands-on learning. Max has led the organisation’s largest projects to date, involving more than 200 community participants through their delivery. His role extends beyond directing independent short films to mentoring and inspiring young filmmakers, helping them build confidence and practical skills within professionally structured productions. He has directed Next Take’s two largest films so far, 'Different Ways' and 'Piece of Mind', both of which have been screened across Scotland, with 'Piece of Mind' recently winning best screenplay at the Monthly Film Festival.
Alongside his narrative work, Max produces high-quality promotional and online video content for a wide range of clients and briefs. He has created documentary style films for organisations including Scouts Scotland, the Scottish FA and Kilwinning Sports Club, North Ayrshire Council, and the Bearsden Festival.
Max also has experience in educational videography, creating video content for three music education resources commissioned by Children’s Classic Concerts, designed for use by school children across Scotland.
